Bleeding tendency in uremia.

چکیده
LTHOIJGH the association of bleeding teuideuicy with uremia has beeui recognized fon’ at least a century,n the exact (‘ause has miever 1)een clearly defined. Vascular damage has been suggested.2 This study includes assays of many hemostatic factors in twelve patients showing varying degrees of azotelllia with and without hemorrhagic manifestations. An abnormality in platelet function (thrombocytopathia) was the most consistent finding.

Role of endothelium-derived nitric oxide in the bleeding tendency of uremia.
Endothelium-derived relaxing factor, now identified as nitric oxide (NO), is a labile humoral agent formed by vascular endothelial cells from L-arginine. NO mediates the action of substances that induce endothelium-dependent relaxation and plays a role in regulating blood pressure. In this study we investigated whether NO is involved in the pathogenesis of the bleeding tendency associated with ...
متن کاملVariability in response to cryoprecipitate treatment for hemostatic defects in uremia.
Cryoprecipitate is frequently administered as treatment for hemostatic defects in patients with uremia. The only published data supporting this approach however, involves seven patients described by Janson and colleagues in whom bleeding times were shortened and bleeding complications reduced after cryoprecipitate infusion. We retrospectively reviewed our institution's experience with cryopreci...
متن کاملOral Antiplatelet Agents in Dialysis Patients: Friends or Foes?
Thrombotic cardiovascular events are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients [1] and vascular access thrombosis remains the Achilles’ heel for patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (HD) [2]. HD and uremia are characterized by two simultaneous but opposite hematological abnormalities: a thrombotic predisposition and a bleeding tendency mainly due to impaired...
متن کاملAbnormalities of cytoplasmic Ca2+ in platelets from patients with uremia.
Uremic patients have a hemorrhagic tendency, often associated with prolonged bleeding times and decreased platelet function in vitro. Whether these defects result from abnormalities in plasma factors affecting platelet activity, platelet surface receptors, intracellular platelet mediators, or other aspects of platelet behavior is unknown. To examine the possibility that the abnormality in plate...
متن کاملHaemostatic mechanism in uraemia.
The haemostatic mechanism was investigated in 20 patients with renal failure, of whom nine had evidence of a bleeding tendency. A defect of platelet function was the most common finding. The effect of dialysis on the bleeding state is briefly discussed, and a scheme for the routine investigation of haemostasis in renal failure is put forward.
